US NorthWest 2017 Travel (11) - Crater Lake National Park

Crater Lake National Park is a site I was exited to see and finally visited. Since the lodge at the park was already booked out, we stayed at a resort one the bank of Lemolo Lakethe night before.
Crater Lake is roughly circular shaped. It is fairly large with surface area 53 square km, although much smaller than the Yellowstone Lake of similar origin. The elevation of the rim is above 2000 m, and the average depth is 350 m, deepest is 594 m. The crater was formed by the collapse of a huge magma chamber after its eruption about 7700 ago. Amazingly, there is another cinder cone inside the crater on Wizard Isaland and its top is 230 m above the lake surface. There is a road circling the lake, with many view points and trails along the road. There is also a boat tour during the summer so the visitors can land on the islands and hike in the cinder cone. When we came here in early July, the portion of the road was still not open, and the boat tour was not in operation yet.
