Mother Birds Mothers Day

Changde Wu    2014-05-04

May 9, 2010 was the Sunday, also the Mother's day of that year. Around the noon time, I heard unusual chirping of the birds which were nesting under my porch. When I peeked out from the window on the nest, I found that all chicks were fledging. This was an event to celebrate for the birds family since the day of fledging was coincident with the Mother's day. The chirping of the adult birds were the action of guiding the chicks to the right place and feed them on the way. After the young birds disappeared, I checked the backyard, then found a dead young bird who was unfortunately drowned in the small pond, a real risk for all young birds flying for the first time. This might be a tragedy for the Mother bird on this special day.

Bird's nest under my porch's ceiling
P1 Birds made their nest in the bag hung under the ceiling of the porch; the bag was for storing the clips.
The birds were very vigillant. When feeding chicks, they used to looking around first, then put the head inside. To avoid interupt the bird, we usually pull down the curtain of the winodw facing the nest, also avoided being around the porch unneccesarilly.
