Luray Caverns and Grand Caverns of Virginia

Changde Wu    2019-05-05

There are around ten large caverns in the Virginia Appalachia Mountains. We visisted three of them during our 2018 travel in the region. This article is about the Luray caverns and Grand Caverns, the Caverns in Natural Bridge is included in the Natural Bridge article. Due to nature of guided tour and the large number of perople in tour groups, the visits were hectic.

(1) Luray Caverns

Luray Caverns is the most influential cavern in Virginia as well as in Eastern USA. My overall impression is that the caverns are great with many amazing formations. The downside is that it is over crowded. So the tour is rather in a rush with more time to observe and enjoy.

Grand Caverns claims being America's oldest show cave. The entrance of the cavern is upper in the hill.
