Florida sea shore, centrated with common herons (Great Egret,Great Blue Heron, and Snowy Egret) and Brown Pelican
There are more specics in the heron family than you think. However, the most common types are blue heron, great egret and snowy egret. Other specics are not that common, some only occurs in the Florida. Although not exhaustive, this page documents most of them. The classification of herons are still not decisive, the following table lists the herons in this page and their scientific names. The great white heron, appears mostly in southern Florida, is a little bit tricky for ornithologiests. It used to be great blue heron in white morph. However, more recent studies suggest that it in specices of its own.
